As Senior Partner, Marcus brings over 20 years of experience in cultural heritage, strategic planning, and policy development to NPG Planning Solutions. He has worked across Ontario with both public- and private-sector clients, leading hundreds of projects ranging from heritage policy and adaptive reuse to development approvals and community planning.
Marcus is nationally recognized for his work in heritage planning and is frequently called upon as an expert witness before the Ontario Land Tribunal and in judicial proceedings. He has also co-authored Heritage Planning (Routledge, 2020), a leading text in the field.
In addition to his consulting work, Marcus contributes to the next generation of planners as an instructor at the University of Waterloo, the University of Victoria, and the Willowbank School of Restoration Arts. He has also held teaching and research roles at Queen’s University, Carleton University, and Algonquin College.
Marcus holds a PhD in Cultural/Historical Geography from Queen’s University, a Master of Planning from the University of Guelph, and additional certifications in heritage conservation, museum studies, and cultural property protection.
Outside of his professional life, Marcus is actively involved in heritage and community organizations and enjoys sharing his passion for conservation and planning with colleagues, students, and community members.
