NPG at Action2025: Exploring Ethics, AI and Leadership in Planning

The NPG Planning Solutions team was proud to attend CIP/OPPI 2025, Action2025, Canada’s national planning conference held in Toronto. Centered on the theme Action2025: Reconciliation, Resilience, Relevance, the event brought together planning professionals from across the country to share ideas, tackle challenges, and discuss the evolving future of the profession.

We were especially proud to see Mary Lou Tanner, Partner and Past President of NPG, present in two insightful sessions during the conference

What’s Ethics Got to Do With It?

Mary Lou joined a panel of planning professionals to examine the ethical implications of integrating Artificial Intelligence in planning. The session explored the importance of transparency, professional responsibility, and public trust as digital tools become increasingly embedded in the planning process.

Thriving Through the First Six Months: New Managers and Directors

In the second session, Mary Lou co-led a practical discussion focused on supporting new managers and directors as they transition into leadership roles. She shared key strategies for building trust, leading changes, and establishing direction in the early months of a new position.

Congratulations to the CIP, OPPI and all organizers for creating a meaningful and forward-thinking space for professional growth and dialogue.
